
February 4, 2005 - Keystone Systems is pleased to announce the winner of this year's Julie Klauber Award. Bella Lucero, a Reader's Advisor at the New Mexico Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is this year's Julie Klauber Award Recipient. Julie Klauber was a national expert and leader on disability issues and instrumental in helping develop Keystone's growing national presence. The award is granted to a staff member who works with KLAS, has shown outstanding service during his/her time with the library, and will appreciate and benefit from attending the KLAS Users Conference.
Lucero has served the library for nearly seven years and "has been an integral part of the library's development with the Keystone system." Her knowledge of English and Spanish benefit the library by allowing outreach to a greater population. Additionally, she helped train three Reader's Advisors while promoting library programs such as the Summer Reading Program. John Mugford, Director of NMLPH, states, "Bella's bilingual ability and enthusiastic response to patron's needs has made her a favorite among many patrons."
As this year's recipient Lucero receives airfare, hotel accommodations, and conference registration fees for the 2005 KLAS Users' Conference in Raleigh, NC. The Award Committee members selected Lucero from a field of six very worthy nominees.
