Keystone offers graphical On-line Public Access Catalogues for both in-house and remote access. WebOPAC allows users to search your catalogue from any standard web browser. It offers full functionality in a web page format and can be customized easily to reflect the attitude of your library.
The WebOPAC can be accessed by almost any computer that has internet access. It can run either on an Intranet or on the Internet.
The web server needed to run the OPAC can exist either on the same server as the KLAS database or be housed in a physically separate server.
It is easy to use by staff and patrons, yet it provides powerful search capabilities.
KLAS's WebOPAC was designed from the ground-up using universal design concepts. It was then tested to make sure it is easy to use by a wide variety of people using a wide variety of browsers and adaptive technology.
A simple or advanced search can be performed by indicating a single index (i.e. author, subject, title, etc.) or combining multiple indexes.
Libraries can decide which search indexes are preferred and, thereby, customize the search capabilities.
Patrons can log on to the WebOPAC and place requests or reserves for books. This information is then automatically updated in real time to the Patron's request and/or reserve list on the KLAS database.
Patrons have the ability to access their profile to verify their address information. If this information is incorrect, they can then submit an address change request that is automatically e-mailed to a member of the library staff.
Because a patron can access their profile, they can perform searches based on their profile leading to very personalized search results. However, what the system takes into account from the patron profile is configurable by the patron. Therefore, patrons have more ability to manage their records.
Libraries can set whether users have restricted or full access to their Patron Profiles. This option is available for patrons who wish to have more confidentiality applied to their Patron Profile to rule out information such as items checked out.
You can customize WebOPAC to reflect your institution's style. Color, format, and logos are under your control. The flexibility of KLAS WebOPAC allows you to create the public access you want in a form your patrons can appreciate.
From inception, WebOPAC and KLAS are designed to be accessible and easily useable by staff and patrons so users can determine where they are, what the context is, what the data is, and what they can do with it.
Keystone's years of work in accessibility have led to a useable design that complies with the Access Board's purchasing guidelines as defined in section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
To make our OPAC viable for in-house and remote access, we designed it to be accessible to as many systems as possible and keeping in mind the principals of graceful degradation. The only limitation on what browsers can be used with WebOPAC is that they must be capable of reading tables (level 2 HTML). Keystone currently supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0 and above, Netscape 2.0 and above, and LYNX, a text-based browser useful with terminals and adaptive equipment. In addition, WebOPAC will also run on some alternative browsers like Opera, Mosaic, WebTV, and Homepage Reader.
If your institution already has existing Web pages, your can customize WebOPAC to fit in with their look and feel. Color, style, and logos are under your control. You can have different versions of the page for in-house and remote access. You can define the default search parameters to reflect the searches your patrons perform most often, without hiding the alternative formats and searches. You can have links to pages other than the catalogue search page showing what services the library offers, directions to the library, community information - whatever you want. The flexibility of KLAS WebOPAC allows you to create the public access you want in a form your patrons can appreciate.

These are just a few of the benefits KLAS offers your library. We would like the opportunity to demonstrate KLAS to you and your staff. If you would like to see a demonstration of KLAS, send an email to sales@klas.com to request a live, web-based demo! Please note that Keystone customizes our response for each request for information specific to your library's needs. Therefore, we do not offer a generic demo disk.
